Ibrahimovic downplays UEFA record

Zlatan Ibrahimovic equalled the record for goals scored in the UEFA Champions League group stage, but says individual accolades mean nothing to him.

The Swede scored his eighth goal in Paris Saint-Germain’s 2-1 victory over Olympiakos at Parc des Princes on Tuesday night.

In doing so he equalled the tournament record, held by Cristiano Ronaldo, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Hernan Crespo and Filippo Inzaghi.

Ibrahimovic has a good chance of overtaking the record, if he scored in PSG’s final group game against Benfica, but after last night’s match he insisted he cares little for individual awards.

“It’s not something I think about and it is something that is not important for me,” the 32-year-old told reporters.

“I do not need to win this trophy to know I am the best.”

With last night’s win PSG are guaranteed top spot in Group C, and Ibrahimovic says they will now switch focus to the knockout stages.

“Our aim was to get out of the group stage and we have done that,” he says.

“We must now wait for the draw to see who we play but, until then, we will train hard and be ready for the next match.”
