Henry training with Arsenal again

Thierry Henry is training with Arsenal for a third year running, but there are no suggestions that the 36-year-old could make another emotional return to the club.

New York Red Bulls striker Henry is training with Arsene Wenger’s first team as he looks to maintain his fitness levels in the MLS off season, with his presence at the club’s London Colney base certain to set tongues wagging over another comeback.

Arsenal’s all-time record goal scorer enjoyed a brief and successful loan spell with the Gunners a couple of seasons back, with his goals in the FA Cup and Premier League helping the club to some vital victories.

However, it seems unlikely that Wenger would consider re-signing 36-year-old Henry now, a year after he declined the chance to bring the French striker in on a short-term deal ahead of the new MLS season.

That view could change if injuries afflict the Arsenal ranks, with the misfiring Nicklas Bendtner the only natural striker to support lead marksman Olivier Giroud at the current time.

Henry initially signed for Arsenal from Juventus in 1999 and was a key part of Arsene Wenger’s ‘Invincibles’ side of 2003-04, before leaving for Barcelona in the summer of 2007.

He returned to the club for a loan spell in January 2012, when he scored both goals against Leeds in the FA Cup and a winner in stoppage-time at Sunderland on his last appearance.
