The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun State, Prof. Olusola Oyewole, has challenged researchers to seek ways of mitigating the effects of climate change in the country.
He also urged them to develop the nation’s water resource capabilities.
The vice-chancellor spoke at a workshop on Climate Change and Integrated Water Resources Management in South-West Nigeria.
The workshop was organised by the National Water Resources Capacity Building Network in partnership with the National Water Resources Institute, Kaduna and the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
Oyewole stressed the need for an integrated approach to water resource management through education, training, research and information dissemination, to transform the nation’s economy.
The Dean, Postgraduate School, Prof. Ololade Enikuomehin, represented the FUNAAB VC, who is also the President, Association of African Universities, on the occasion.
Oyewole noted that FUNAAB was passionate about the development of agriculture and would, therefore, ensure that the impact of research findings in the university got to the common man.
He added that this passion contributed to the institution’s chances of winning the World Bank’s Centre for Excellence award in agriculture.
The Co-ordinator of NWRCBNet-SW and Dean, FUNAAB’s College of Engineering, Prof. Johnson Adewumi, said the centre was committed to promoting effective partnership in education, training, research and information dissemination on water resources development and management.
